The truth is: every client we meet has different expectations, experience preferences and Explora Journey's doesn't let down. We've developed the intricate differences and prefaced each with the important details: What's the improvement in experience and value? The answer to this question must begin at the largest entry-level suite compared to all other cruise brands: The Ocean Terrace Suite.

1. Ocean Terrace/Suite → Ocean Penthouse

The upgrade is primarily about space, entertaining and outdoor living.

Ocean Suites already provide a substantial luxury experience: floor-to-ceiling windows, private terraces, walk-in wardrobes and premium in-suite amenities.

Moving into a Penthouse gives you:

  • A larger living area

  • A dedicated dining area for four

  • More generous outdoor terraces

  • Outdoor dining and a daybed

  • A more residential feeling rather than simply a luxury hotel-style suite

  • Larger categories ranging up to 69 sqm / 742 sq ft on the current suite page

The Grand Penthouse takes this even further with distinct areas for dining, lounging, sleeping and working.

Experience improvement: You move from a beautiful oceanfront suite to a true entertaining space.

2. Ocean Penthouse → Ocean Residence

This is where the experience changes more dramatically.

Ocean Residences range from approximately 65–149 sqm, depending on category. Explora describes them as design-led sanctuaries with elevated service from Residence Hosts.

The five biggest differences are:

🛋️ A. Residential-scale living

You begin getting distinct living environments rather than one primary suite space.

🌊 B. Much larger terraces

Depending on Residence category, you can have enormous outdoor spaces designed for dining, lounging and entertaining.

♨️ C. Private whirlpool

Several Residence categories introduce a private outdoor whirlpool, including Cove with Whirlpool, Serenity and Cocoon Residences.

👤 D. Residence Host service

This is an important experiential upgrade: you're no longer simply receiving enhanced suite amenities—you have elevated in-residence service from a Residence Host throughout your stay.

🧘 E. Spa/wellness privileges

The Residence level adds priority access to the Ocean Wellness thermal area, a complimentary Ritual of Ocean Renewal treatment and a private 45-minute mindfulness/sound-therapy ritual.

Experience improvement: The Residence becomes a private retreat within the ship, with service and wellness benefits built around you.

3. Ocean Residence → Owner's Residence

This is less of a conventional "suite upgrade" and more of a move into a private luxury residence at sea.

Explora currently describes the Owner's Residence as the pinnacle of ocean living and says it spans the ship's full beam/aft width.

🏠 1. Extraordinary scale

The Owner's Residence is approximately 280 sqm / 3,014 sq ft.

That's roughly:

  • 155 sqm interior

  • 125 sqm outdoor terrace

The terrace includes an infinity whirlpool and dining for eight.

🌅 2. Full-width panoramic outdoor living

Rather than simply having a large balcony, you get a massive outdoor environment designed for entertaining, dining and relaxing.

👤 3. Dedicated Residence Manager

This is arguably the biggest service distinction.

Instead of a Residence Host, the Owner's Residence has a dedicated Residence Manager overseeing the details of your stay.

🍽️ 4. Exceptional dining access

Owner's Residence guests receive unlimited priority reservations for culinary venues, along with enhanced private dining capabilities.

🚘 5. Private-driver and personalized journey service

The current benefits include a private driver ashore—one per Journey, where available. The Owner's Residence also receives the highest level of included ground-transfer benefits, with up to four transfers under the stated conditions.

Experience improvement: You're moving from an exceptionally luxurious suite to a private residence with dedicated management and entertaining capabilities.

Simply Said: Here's what you get

🌊 OCEAN SUITE

"Luxury private retreat."

Beautiful ocean views, private terrace, excellent amenities and a very high level of comfort.

⬇️

🏙️ OCEAN PENTHOUSE

"Luxury entertaining space."

More room, larger terrace, dining for four and a more residential layout.

⬇️

🏡 OCEAN RESIDENCE

"Private residence at sea."

Much more space, larger terraces, selected private whirlpools, Residence Host service and enhanced wellness/arrival privileges.

⬇️

👑 OWNER'S RESIDENCE

"Private luxury home at sea."

280 sqm, full-width aft residence, 125 sqm terrace, infinity whirlpool, dining for eight and a dedicated Residence Manager.

The price difference isn't simply buying a bigger bedroom.

The progression is really:

More space → more living space → more outdoor space → more privacy → more personalized service → more privileged access.

And that's why I would position the Ocean Residence as the point where the experience becomes substantially different—not merely larger.

For EXPLORA IV specifically, there is also an important distinction: the ship has the new Owner's Residence by Patricia Urquiola, and Explora states that this design collaboration applies to the Owner's Residences on both EXPLORA III and EXPLORA IV.
